We're beginning our trip in beautiful Nebraska.

Polk, Nebraska.

Small town America. Cliff’s home town! What a great three days visiting with cousins. Cliff remembers the whole community coming  to town on a Saturday night.  Many great memories.

North Platte, NE.

The Golden Spike Observation Tower at the Bailey Yard. This is the largest railroad yard in the world. It is really something to see. You can actually see the ‘hump’ yard where the trains are formed. The rail cars are pushed to the top of the hump then released. They move down the rail and are directed to the right track to be hooked up to their proper train. There is a ‘hump yard’ for both east and west bound trains.

At North Platte during WWII, 55,000 women were organized from the surrounding towns including some in Wyoming and Kansas.  They met every train coming through in both directions carrying our troops to the East and West coasts.  These dedicated women provided refreshments for sometimes as many as 30 trains a day and thousands of young men and women.

Scottsbluff, Nebraska

The Scottsbluff National Monument. A fantastic sight. We had a great early morning hike on the mountain. It was a hazy morning so we were unable to see the ‘Chimney Rock’ twelve  miles away. Normally you could.

Reconstructed Robidoux Trading Post on the Oregon Trail.

Pioneer graves. Cliff got us there and is now looking for a way out over the very deep ruts! Nothing for miles around and we surely did not want to stuck here! The Escape pulled through. Thank Heavens.
