Left the campground at 6:30 a.m. for our 92 mile one-way trip into Denali National Park. Above the sunrise over the RV campground sign.
First view of the prettiest mountain in the world. Mt. Denali (formerly Mt. McKinley). Around 2,000 attempt the climb every year. Only about half make it. They only climb in June and July.
Dall sheep and caribou from a distance.
The week before there was a mud slide that closed the road for two days. A lot of buses were stranded past the mud slide. All of the tourist had to be air-lifted back to the entrance to the park. There was a wedding reception going on at the lodge at the far end. Several of the invited guests could not make it, so the bride and groom just invited anyone stranded at the lodge to their reception.
We were so fortunate to be able to see the mountain at most of the viewing sites. So many visit the park and never see the mountain because of the clouds and fog.
Lodge at the end of the 92 mile road, where we had lunch. This was also the lodge where the wedding reception was held.
This is how big these antlers are. They are shed every year and then grow new ones.
